Jock and Vera play Cajun songs and twin fiddle breakdowns, Appalachian tunes and old-time country music as well as original material. You may have seen them both performing in the New Rope String Band and Vera has released two solo albums.
Jock Tyldesley is perhaps best known for his fiddling in Cajun bands such as The Flatville Aces and the Bearcats, as well as more off-the-wall antics with The New Rope String Band and The Chipolatas.
He also nurtures a long-time passion for Southern Appalachian old time fiddling for many years and has spent more time concentrating on this, whilst touring worldwide with his regular bands and US acts such as Eddie LeJeune, The Dirk Powell Band, Sheryl Cormier, Martha Scanlan, Beverly Smith and Carl Jones and Balfa Toujours.
With influences firmly rooted across the Atlantic, Vera van Heeringen writes soulful songs and tunes with lyrics and delivery speaking straight to – and from – the heart. A highly skilled instrumentalist, she has long been recognised for her graceful yet gutsy guitar playing. Last year Vera released her second album, Proper Brew, which features a list of musicians who share her musical aesthetic, including Tim O’Brien, Dirk Powell, Rayna Gellert and Kris Drever. This record has received rave reviews and lots of radio play. It’s unusual to find someone who’s as good a songwriter as an instrumentalist, who brings the guitar to life in way that is entirely her own.
'She can play anything with strings, write fine songs and sing them too’ Tim O’Brien
‘The songs and tunes she writes are first class.’ John Atkins, fRoots
‘Vera Van Heeringen has spent far too long away from the spotlight.’ David Hughes, FATEA
