Niall Hanna is a traditional folk singer and songwriter from Derrytresk in Co. Tyrone. In late 2018 he released his fist solo album of songs which received critical acclaim. The title track ‘Autumn Winds’ was nominated for ‘Best Original Track’ at the RTE Folk Awards in October 2018. He also received a nomination for ‘Best Emerging Folk Artist’ and has been making a name for himself within the folk scene in recent times. In 2017 he received the ‘Young Musician’s Platform Award’ from the Arts council, which provided him with the funding to produce and release his debut album.

Evidence: Before the World Was Made. The Nashville based songwriters’ 2013 collaboration spotlights celebrated troubadours in peak form (“Before We Come to Our Senses”). "These are modern day country duets à la George Jones and Melba Montgomery," producer Gurf Morlix says, "but with very sophisticated songwriting."

Spending her childhood among muleskinners and loyal patron’s of her family’s “country” store, she never had trouble finding characters or good stories.

Kids’ Classics is a not-for-profit organisation that provides high quality music making opportunities in educational, healthcare and community settings.

As part of our day to day operations, we:

  • deliver fun, educational, interactive and accessible music workshops for schools and children & families in tailored workshops including our series of 'Meet the Composer' workshops based on the lives of 12 classical music composers
  • design, manage and deliver professional music projects and programmes in Healthcare and Community Settings around Ireland (Music & Healthcare)
  • facilitate training courses and mentoring opportunities for musicians and healthcare staff on an adapted and tailored sensitive approach to participant-centered music interventions and interactions in healthcare settings, as pioneered and developed by Musique et Santé, Europe’s leading provider of “Music and Health” training (Training Notes)

Since the festival's early days, we have established strong relationship with the bluegrass scene in N. Ireland. In this concert we are paying tribute to one of the Island's finest music venues - The Red Room in Coockstown, Co. Tyrone. The names of the 3 cats to play at the event, will not be revealed till start of the show - Mystery indeed.

Based on last year's success , we are bringing back this great event. Square Dance is one of the main staples of traditional bluegrass festival. This year, music will be provided by Big Chimney Barn Dance.

The Luthiers Showcase

The Luthiers Showcase

2014 was the first time the festival featured award-winning luthiers - traditional instrument makers - exhibiting their wares, talking about their craft and consulting with the public about fine instruments. This Saturday afternoon event has become a festival tradition and for the second year running the Luthiers will set up in the fabulous Westport Town Hall Theatre. We will be including award-winning mandolin and guitar maker Brian Lofthouse, award-winning bow maker Gary Leahy, prolific and long-established violin maker Graham Wright. Don't miss this opportunity to meet the makers and discuss the beautiful craft of luthiery.
